The Unveiling of The Forest Drawing:
Descending Light in Tengudake Forest
In 2017 i was fortunate to be asked to make some work in Jackson Hole Wyoming a beautiful wild part of The United States of America . It was an intensive and inspiring period of work . One piece that was produced is shown below (the image was actually taken while it was in progress in the snow field ) . Winter Snow Light through the Aspens . ( ink on paper ) 122 x 59 cm
It was a a ballet of Winter light through the branches and during the course of the frosty afternoon i saw that the branches and light were turning on each other .
Light descending and Branches ascending . Aspen have particularly dark bark markings which is tantalising when the light hits the silvery trunks .
I made a sketch of this as a concept and it sat in my sketchbook ..A few days later i realised this vision with the Trees and Light was so close to the twist of DNA . This well know spiral in Nature had always fascinated me .
It seemed to make such sense of the experience I had in the forest .
Now in Koumi it all came back to me, and i saw this Spiral again.: There was a wonderful wall provided in the design of Tadao Ando; …there was the roll of paper; and here was the Inspiration in The Forest that asked me to dance some more .
